Some concepts never quite land through reading alone. What students need is the understanding and intuition to grasp the principle behind them.

So that a good book's explanation
becomes a student's understanding.
The national assessment measures achievement in Korean and maths; it is not a direct measure of literacy or mathematical intuition. The figures are a reference for how the learning environment is changing.
When text and figure sit apart, attention is spent just moving the eyes between them. Placing the two close together lowers that load and leaves more for understanding. A meta-analysis of 58 studies supports this. Decorative animation matters less than motion that explains how a concept changes. So students control the pace, and when the explanation ends, the page returns naturally to print.
These design principles rest on research. The studies below did not evaluate linear studio's product; they examine the learning principles the product applies. Animation helped most where the process of change is itself the content (Ploetzner et al. 2020, g = 0.65), and positive effects were also reported when learners controlled the playback speed (Berney & Bétrancourt 2016, 140 comparisons). · Try the specimens →
All three can be tried as specimens (elementary, middle, high tabs): the graph is drawn in the order of the explanation, and tapping a word lights up that part of the figure. The effect is the principle of the studies above; our product has not yet been measured.
Studies find comprehension slightly higher when the same text is read on paper rather than on screen. But the figures in a book stay still, as one finished picture. The motion and the principle inside it are left for the student to picture.
Easy to open anywhere and to find what you need. But the figures are still still, and because it looks much like a scan, the value of the original is hard to show.
It explains whatever you ask, instantly. But words alone are sometimes not enough. Pointing to the book's own figure and moving it to aid understanding is still a separate thing.
The figure is drawn in the order the text explains, and tapping a key word links that concept to the figure. Reading, replaying and asking about the hard part all happen inside one book. linear studio adds an interactive layer over the printed page.
This is not an age in which AI replaces the book.
It is an age in which AI helps readers understand the book more deeply and keep it longer.
